چکیده

Distribution of ABO blood groups, Rh, PTC taste ability and colour blinness was investigated among twelve endogamous populations of Terai belt (Indo-Nepal border) of Bihar, who belonged to different castes and ethnic groups with different migrational history. The phenotypic and gene frequencies of four common loci show wide differences between the populations. In general, group B is dominant over group A, but in four populations (Badhiya, Kulhayya, Mushar and Tharu) group O was prevalent. Rhnegative frequency was highest among Bania and lowest in Tharu. Frequency of non taster was highest among Tharu and lowest in Oraon. The incidence of redgreen blindness was lowest in Santal and highest in Mushar. The pooled heterozygosity was highest (0.545) for ABO locus and lowest for colour blindness (0.055).The average heterozygosity value varies in between 0.228 among the Tharu and 0.420 among the Bania. The studied populations share low Gst value i.e. 0.020, which is almost negligible. The dendrogram depicts bifurcation of the population groups into two lines: one line leading to Tharu alone and the other line leads to Santal and other populations. The other line bifurcates again into Muslim and a bunch of populations. This bunch of populations includes Mushar, Rajbanshi, Chamar, Brahmin, Oraon, Munda, Dhobi, Bania, Kulhayya. Muslims share more or less proximal ancestor. From the genetic distance analysis there is some evidence of close genetic relationship among the population groups belonging to same region, irrespective of their caste, religion, linguistic or any other affinities.

Altitudinal Genetic Variations Among the Fagus orientalis Lipsky Populations in Iran

Nuclear simple sequence repeats (nSSRs), together with 16 different enzyme loci, were used to analyzegenetic diversity and differentiation among beech (Fagus orientalis Lipsky) populations along two altitudinalgradients in Hyrcanian forests of Iran. Both enzymes and nSSR analyses revealed a high level ofgenetic diversity in natural populations of F. orientalis. The genetic div...

Differences in Genetic Structure among Fagus orientalis Lipsky (Oriental Beech) Populations under Different Management Conditions: Implications for in situ Gene Conservation

Resource sustainability requires a thorough understanding of the influence of forest management programs on the conservation of genetic diversity in tree populations. To observe how differences in forest management affect the genetic structure of Fagus orientalis Lipsky (oriental beech), we evaluated thirteen beech sites across Hyrcanian forests, based on six microsatellite loci. Significant di...

Genetic structure of Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. ciceri populations from chickpea in Ilam province, Iran

Chickpea (Cicer arietinum L.) is one of the most important legume crops in Iran. Wilt disease caused by Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. ciceri, is the most important soil-borne disease of chickpea in the world. This disease caused high losses in different regions during recent years. Simple sequence repeat (SSR) were used to estimate genetic diversity in 114 of F. oxysporum isolates from six counties...

Rapid exploratory field survey, to identify indigenous chicken ecotypes was conducted in north Gondar zone of Ethiopia. Chicken ecotypes including Necked neck, Gasgie and Gugut from Quara, Alefa and Tache Armacheho districts were identified, respectively. Morphological variations among the three study populations and nine measurable traits were evaluated. General linear model, canonical discrim...

Assessment of genetic diversity and relationship of coastal salt tolerant rice accessions of Kerala (South India) using microsatellite markers

Rice (Oryza sativa L.) is one of the most significant cereal crops, about 3 billion people, nearly half the world's population; depend on rice for survival and it offers up to 80% of daily energy intake in most of the Asian countries. Knowledge of the distribution, extent and pattern of genetic variation is useful for estimation of any possible loss of genetic diversity and its role in breeding...
